Located just outside of Luray, in the beautiful and historic Shenandoah Valley of Virginia, is Khimaira Farm, a working dairy goat and meat goat farm focusing on sustainable agriculture.  The family's home was built during the Civil War, with bricks made on site.  It is listed in Old Homes of Page County.

Nubian relaxing at Khimaira Dairy Goat Farm!

After 35+ years of raising goats, we have scaled back our operation significantly (although still have enough goats to enjoy them and their products...we just decided that we didn't need to raise hundreds a year at this point!)  A number of our facilities are being "repurposed" for a variety of functions.

It all started  when our oldest daughter, Julena and her fiance,  Jeff,  decided they wanted to get married here at the farm.  Since then, we have continued to make changes and to add new features and renovations.

The main building under renovation is our former "Kid Barn".  It was previously  home to thousands of goats over the years, but you wouldn't know that now!  This 34 x 90' building with attached 14 x 90 "concrete patio" area (formerly the play area for our baby goats!) is now an "Events Barn".  The concrete floors provide easy walking or wheelchair use.  This building has a kitchen with freezer, refrigerator, large sink, electric stove and work space for food prepping.  There are also two unisex bathrooms, and an additional bathroom in the dressing area.  The 'dressing area' is an adjacent 12x20 room.  This can be used for small meetings, children's play area, bride's dressing room, or additional prep area for kitchen if needed, and will be versatile for other uses as well.  (See Dressing Room and Bathrooms Here)  With quilts on the couches and walls, the "theme" of this barn is country casual.  It can be "dressed up"  or changed with your own decorations as you choose.

We've recently added a wall of  windows and French doors to the wall leading out to the "patio" to help extend seasonal usage.
We've also added a "back porch" made for relaxing in our rocking chairs and comfy benches and sofas!

Our Events Barn also has a variety of tables, chairs and other seating, including casual couches for lounging (all at no additional charge).   There is also a roll out dance floor (also included at no charge)!  The six ceiling fans offer good air movement on warm days and nights.  Tiny decorative lights adorn the ceiling, along with other full lighting that can be dimmed or turned off completely to  allow the  ambiance of the decorative lights that glisten like tiny stars in the sky!

Candles and/or lanterns can easily hang from the beams and fenced enclosure around the patio.
The patio area gives your guests a chance to stand or sit under the stars and enjoy the view of the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains and Shenandoah National Park/Skyline Drive in our “back yard”!

Reception in Event Barn
Note:  Since this picture was taken, the area with the posts on the right is now a bar and 'porch' area for more seating.

Overflow parking is available in nearby pasture fields.

In addition to the Events Barn, we have a  14'x52' Garden Pavilion, surrounded by more gardens.  The pavilion has a 10'x14'  roofed area at each end, complete with electricity.  The center has a lattice covered pergola with silver vine, clematis, climbing hydrangea and wisteria.    The garden around the pavilion features a fountain, more seating, a fragrant Magnolia, roses and a variety of other plants.  It also has a a number of feeders to accommodate our diverse bird population (including our summer resident hummingbirds!). In late summer and fall, the "walls" of the garden here are smothered with morning glory in full bloom in the mornings and on cool days.  Other climbing vines include sweet peas, corkscrew vine, clematis, jasmine, akebia and  kiwi.  Tiny decorative lights adorn the pergola.

Also, in 2007, we added a 10'x20' rose arbor with inside bench seating and raised flower bed with climbing vines.  Adjacent to the arbor is a 12'x12' raised platform/deck area with a romantic metal gazebo...perfect for ceremonies!

There is ample outdoor area for ceremonies or additional seating throughout our gardens and orchard area.  We have a variety of gardens that feature a wide diversity of plants!  You might be here in time to take in the delightful scents of roses, magnolia, jasmine, gardenia and more!  Different plants will be blooming depending on the season!  Late May and June have a wide range of flowers and shrubs in bloom. September and October have fewer varieties, but still a good showing and the beginning of fall color.

With these hands...Jeff and Julena

“These are the hands of your best friend, young and strong and full of love for you, that are holding yours on your wedding day, as you promise to love each other today, tomorrow, and forever.

These are the hands that will work alongside yours, as together you build your future.

These are the hands that will passionately love you and cherish you through the years, and with the slightest touch, will comfort you like no other.

These are the hands that will hold you when fear or grief fills your mind.

These are the hands that will countless times wipe the tears from your eyes; tears of sorrow, and tears of joy.

These are the hands that will help you to hold your family as one.

These are the hands that will give you strength when you need it.

And lastly, these are the hands that even when wrinkled and aged, will still be reaching for yours, still giving you the same unspoken tenderness with just a touch.”

Our visitors tell us that this combination of a garden setting with covered areas in the Event Barn provide the best of both worlds for their outdoor events.  Whether sitting in a rocking chair or garden bench in the garden area and enjoying the singing birds and fragrant flowers, or dancing and partying in the Events Barn, your guests will enjoy the comfortable country atmosphere and style!

An outdoor setting does present some logistical problems as we adjust to and accommodate mother nature's  "whims and fancies"!  We do our best to help you plan your events with this in mind!
